Oceans & Coasts: Telepresence
Telepresence Technology
To complete this quest, visit the link above, then produce a Creative Reflection explaining what telepresence is and how it is changing the way ocean exploration is done. Be sure to mention any aspects of telepresence that you find personally interesting or exciting.
In the COMMENTS field, describe what kind of Creative Reflection you produced, and how you submitted it to your teacher (Web link, printed copy, etc).

Telepresence is a group of technologies that allow people to observe and interact with events at a remote location. All communications with the shore are made possible by the Okeanos Explorer’s powerful satellite antenna. The Okeanos employs broadcast industry video encoders to deliver the High-Definition video to shore-based viewers with the highest quality and lowest latency (time delay) possible. It uses satellite technology and Internet2 to transmit data and video in real-time from remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
Telepresence changes the way ocean exploration is done. Telepresence technology enables real-time participation in ocean exploration expeditions from shore. The application of telepresence technology for ship-based work is extremely efficient as it permits unlimited access to personnel on shore, transcending schedules, expertise, skills, and abilities of traditional shipboard teams. It also enables the people onboard exploration vessels to be more focused because people off-site are available to help solve problems.
